How to Play Pyramid Solitaire?

Pyramid Solitaire is an addictive and beautifully eye-catching card game that involves both strategy and luck in equal measures. It is played with a regular 52-card deck. This solitaire variation takes its name from the way cards are arranged in a pyramid-shaped tableau. The objective of the game is to take away all cards from the pyramid by matching pairs of cards that sum to 13-a delectable mix of mathematics and strategy.

To establish Pyramid Solitaire, the cards are shuffled, and 28 cards are dealt in a face-up pyramid setup. The pyramid is made up of seven rows-the first with one card, the second containing two cards each, up until the seventh containing seven cards each. The remaining cards just form a stockpile to draw upon and help in making pairs. Only those cards that are wholly exposed and are not partly overlapped by another card may be played.

The object of this game is to make sets of two cards adding to 13 : a 10 and 3, Jack and 2, for example. The Kings may also be considered a 13 independently and as such may be taken singly without its pair. Cards from the stockpile can be matched up with either pyramid or with each other to clear the tableau. The game ends when all cards are removed, or no more moves are valid.
